November finish for Q4 FAL 2016

A beautiful fall day at the lake.

A bevy of totes ~ it was tricky finding something to hang them on :)
The Maywood Studio's Heartwood fabric is perfect for my three adult daughters.
The Christmas fabric totes are for a yankee swap and gift bag for a quilty BFF:)
One left over... for me?

I'm linking up with Elm Street Quilts and their bag it challenge for this fall:)

Linky Party #3 for the Ultimate Quilting Challenge 2016

September Finish.
My daughter Kelley gave me this beautiful vintage linen this past Christmas.
I wanted to use FMQ to enhance the awesome embroidery.

I used a Sue Nickels heart design for the trapunto in the center.
The Cindy Needham Ultimate Background stencils were used
to make the orange peel and clamshells.
I used the background stencils to mark one spine on the outer sash feathers.
I stitched that spine and then free motion quilted
the echoing spine and the feathers.
The free motion quilted micro stippling, clustered pansies,
swirls and feathers achieved some nice background quilting.

I used the Ultimate stencils to make registration lines
for the Sue Heinz inspired hearts and half hearts.

Thanks so much to Darlene at QuiltShopGal.
Her blog has been so inspirational to me as I learn how to FMQ.
I'll be linking this post to the Linky Party #3 on her blog

August finish.

My August finish is Leah Day's Hearts and Feathers Wholecloth.
It was fun to learn Leah's trapunto technique in the hearts and feathers and
her hairball and micro stippling everywhere else.

I like the echo quilting inside the hearts.

The Ultimate Free Motion Quilting Challenge ~ Summer 2016

Thank you QuiltShopGal for this wonderful FMQ challenge:
Linky Party # 2 Doodle/Sketching with theUltimate Stencil Collection and        the Ultimate Background Collection designed by Cindy Needham

Here are some sketches and practice using some background stencils.

Here is the sketch I drew before attempting to quilt the linen I had already added trapunto to.
I used the circle stencil to get a good size and shape for the corner heart design.
The corner hearts and half hearts along the edge are from a MQU article by Sue Heinz.
I used the 3/4 inch and 1/2 inch background grids for the orange peel doodles. I used the clam shell Papa background stencil for the Baptist fans.
I must say I love using these stencils for this quilt I'm working on.
I can't wait to share the finished quilt:)

I am so excited that it sold for the asking price of $250.00.

Lori Kennedy's book Vintage Farm Girl.
I used 6" animal squares in the 18" silo barn blocks.
I like the animals peeking out of the barn doors.
I had fun FMQ this one. I like the silos, the wooden barns
and the bead board and feathers on the outer border.
Next month I'll finish my Leah Day Hearts and Feathers Wholecloth.

April Finish

Quarter 2 Finish along

This year's Lori Holt quilt is from Farm Girl Vintage.
I have one 6" kitty block sewn.
The other three 6" blocks are cut and ready to sew.
I'll have a kitty, cow, sheep and hen looking out the barn doors.

I love this Bonnie Sullivan kit Santa got me for Christmas.
I added some blue flannel and changed some gold for a softer color.
I need to embroider some noses, eyes and bird feet, then assemble and quilt.

Bunny Hill's Rabbits Prefer Chocolate is made with my favorite colors from my stash.
The top applique and piecing was finished last December.
Since then I've finished the embroidery and now I need to finish the FMQ.
A closer look shows a couple of fun motifs I designed: bunnies and chicks.

Leah Day's Hearrs and Flowers whole cloth quilt with FMQ and trapunto.
Almost done:)

This is a linen table topper my daughter Kelley and I found at a cute NH antique store.
I love the colorful embroidery. The what knots are still there from the original sewer.
The trapunto is done with wash away thread and the quilt sandwich prepared.
Now I want to finish the quilting.

This is a tall order of sewing and quilting to complete but I really want to get these projects completed this quarter and ready to show in two quilt shows later this year.
This summer I'm going to participate in the QuiltsShopGal challenge with Cindy Needham.
I bought the ultimate stencils this week and am excited to focus on my FMQ this summer!
